Make amazing vegan pudding – by hand

I’m so excited. This is really cool. Only yesterday did I get all the details worked out for this: How to make amazing vegan pudding by hand. No electricity needed. No blender, food processor, mixer, nor other appliance necessary. Just one’s own hands.

The secret is this amazing tool:

push and spin whisk
push and spin whisk

It is a “push and spin whisk” and I’ve also seen it by other names on the Web. The second part to make this work is having just the right type of jar, such as:

large glass jar
large glass jar

The capacity of the jar should be around 32 oz or perhaps a little less.

To do this one uses a packet of Silken Tofu of the soft type. I’ve seen instant pudding mixes which call for using firm Silken Tofu however when mixing by hand the firm will not break down as well, leaving little bits of solid tofu. But the soft tofu will mix nicely and form a fairly smooth texture.

Basically the idea is to put the tofu in the jar and then whisk it with the really cool push and spin whisk which is actually fun to use. When I was very small I remember that my mother let us kids play in the kitchen. We made toys out of things like pot lids which I have distinct memories of spinning them around in glee on the kitchen floor. I can only imagine how much fun a whisk tool like this might be!

Another aspect of making this is the actual posture of how to hold the jar and whisk. I have found that its actually best to kneel down on the floor and have my left hand on the floor for support while holding the base of the jar and then whisking up and down with my right hand. With this posture its possible to really whisk very fast ensuring a nice mixing of the pudding.

For flavoring I’ve been using 1 teaspoon of pure organic vanilla powder per 1 packet of tofu although of course here is where the fun begins because one can use virtually any flavorings one likes. That is one of the wonders of tofu, that it can work with just about any type of flavoring.

Last night I even poured in a little bit of my Aqua de Chia lemon water and the lemon flavor was mind blowing. I’m obviously going to revisit using lemon for flavor again.

For sweetening I’ve been using honey. More and more I’m tending to not like agave unfortunately. I may try using stevia in the future or perhaps some other sweeteners.

The resulting tofu will be a little thin and a next phase will be to experiment with some thickening agents.

I started this project a few weeks ago. Years ago I had been into using the pre-made packets for making tofu pudding but this time around I wanted to use my own raw ingredients. I also don’t want to have to use an electric mixer. Now finally its all come together and the result is massive delight every time I eat this amazing pudding!
