Let me plant this concept into your consciousness: Seasonal clearing. Its a good time before the holidays.
From time to time we may feel the need to clear out what feels like accumulated negativity. We are beings who are continually growing, learning, evolving, and becoming wiser. Sometimes we feel like there is this accumulated residue from past negativities that may still cling to us and which we may feel a need to release but not know exactly how.
Yesterday while I was at my local farmers market one vendor had some bunches of sage for sale. They actually were a mixture of sagebrush which grows wild and Salvia officianalis which is garden sage. Either or both are good for clearing.
Its interesting that the sage came to me at this time because I was feeling like I wanted to clear things out. It can be kind of unsettling when there is a feeling of wanting to somehow clear oneself yet then kind of resigning to just accepting the accumulated negative debris, with there being no way to really clear it.
But it can be cleared! That is what clearing is all about, and I especially think that in congested city environments where people are subject to all kinds of stresses, it can be a really healing thing to perform.
My clearing is like a gift to everyone around me. Imagine how wonderful it would be if we all just cleared ourselves now. How nice it would be tomorrow when we all go out into the world again – a new world – a gift we can give each other.
Instructions: Just take a few sprigs of any kind of sage. Make sure you are safe! Smouldering embers can fall on the ground and burn carpeting or fabrics.
Bundle the sprigs together and hold one end and light the other end. Then let it smoulder. You can walk around any areas where you want to clear and let the smoke disperse. Just know that by doing this no matter what you are clearing and purifying your energy and your environment.
I know they sell “smudge sticks” in some places but generally those contain a huge amount of sprigs and create a lot of smoke. It doesn’t have to be a huge production. Just a few sprigs. The idea and the intention are more important and the aroma is refreshing.
