Another amazing accident: Sprouted black lentils!

I just had another amazing accident/discovery a few days ago. I had soaked some black lentils overnight, planning to cook them the next day. However the next day things were too hectic and I never got around to cooking the lentils. So that evening I put the still soaking lentils in the refrigerator. The next day I took them out and was planning to cook them, but again things were too hectic and I never got around to cooking them.

Concerned though that they had been sitting in the same water, I put them in a strainer and rinsed them really well. I then let them drain for several hours. That night I then put the strained lentils in a container and in the refrigerator.

The next day I finally decided I wanted to cook them, so I took the container out of the fridge. I was also preparing to have a salad. I noticed that the lentils had sprouted. I know sprouts are good for you so I tried a few of the sprouted lentils. They were good!

I ended up putting some in the salad. They add a nice zing to a salad.

Even though I still like cooked beans I now think I should seriously look into ways to incorporate sprouted beans into my normal repertoire of staple foods. They are an excellent source of high-quality nourishment.

One thing I like about black lentils is that they are easy to sprout. I did not have to do all kinds of crazy steps of soaking, filtering/rinsing, over and over. I didn’t have to use a special sprouting container or cheesecloth or anything. I basically just soaked them and then drained and rinsed them.
