Nice, natural-look foundation

Since my favorite foundation, Chanel’s Mat Lumiere, has been discontinued, I’ve been experimenting and trying different products for the past weeks. Earlier this past week I decided to give Clarins a try and had a makeover/consult and was really happy with the result.

I tried their Ever Matte SPF 15 Skin Balancing Foundation and liked it. I went back a couple days ago and decided to buy it.

Am using it with Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch primer and the look is very nice. While the foundation is considered matte, it does have a natural luminosity which looks fresh. It blends well with bronzers, blushes, and highlighters. Today for application I used my fingers and only a brush for a few touch-up areas like under the nose.

The ultimate test as to how it stands up against Mat Lumiere will be how well it lasts throughout the day. Mat Lumiere had an exceptionally good lasting quality. 10 or 12 hours after application it would look virtually identical to after it had first been applied in the morning.

I’m sad to see Mat Lumiere go. Several Chanel makeup artists I’ve spoken with in the past also loved this foundation and the results it gave. Chanel has replaced it with Perfection Lumiere which is supposed to be a better/more advanced formula. I look forward to trying it out and hopefully it will equal or exceed its predecessor.

In the meantime, I’m very happy with Clarins Ever Matte and Clarins will definitely be a part of my cosmetics repertoire from now on. When I was at the Clarins counter I also liked the eyeshadow palettes I saw which were fresh and vibrant. Am looking forward to going back and trying some of them out.
