What’s your favorite chewable multi-vitamin? Here’s mine.

Recently I decided to try chewable multi-vitamins.  Of course its not the first time I ever tried them.  In the past I’ve had occasional samples that were available at health food stores.  The thing about chewable multi-vitamins over non-chewable ones is that one is inclined to take them more frequently.  Even for a health-conscious person like me, that extra incentive makes a difference.

Right now because I’m under a lot of physiologic and mental stress I knew that I should probably be supplementing my diet with multi-vitamins more than normal.  Maybe they will do nothing, but also it may be that they will help to some extent and, in my situation, any help is valuable.

So I decided to get chewable multi-vitamins.  After reading labels of multiple containers at the store, these looked the best in terms of vitamins included and their amounts:

But they contain a sickening 9 grams of sugar per serving.  This really bothers me.  People who design supplements and foods think that everything has to be sickeningly sweet to be consumed, which is quite sad to me.  But that’s the reality.  I ended up getting these before realizing the copious amount of sugar per serving.  They are good multis but I’m not going to keep these as part of my health regimen because its just waay too much sugar.

Today I was back at the health food store examining multivitamins and I did see that some chewables had 2-3 grams of sugar per serving which is much better than the above 2.

After comparing the ingredients of all the chewables the Source of Life ones above still appeared to be the best value per serving.  Then I decided to compare them against non-chewables just to see.  That’s when I found these:

Solgar Female Multiple Tablets.  These vitamins, in addition to having by far the coolest name of any vitamin I’ve ever seen, won the comparison against all the others and I decided to get them.  I’ve always known Solgar was an exceptional brand of supplements and its borne out when you read the label.

These are not chewable but so curious was I after buying them that I immediately opened the jar and put one in my mouth and started sucking on it.  The taste is pleasant and I would much rather have this taste than the sickeningly sweet taste of the chewable multis.   I don’t know what’s wrong with people’s palates that everything has to be laden with sugar to be considered acceptable.  To me these tablets taste good.  They don’t have the kind of gross taste that some B vitamin and other multis have.  They taste smooth, like they are made from quality ingredients.

So they are not chewables but can be chewed.  Because they don’t contain sugar it might be a benefit because I won’t tend to overeat them.  But I do plan on chewing them because to me they taste good.
