So I went to the farmers’ market this past weekend and one stand had cherries. I was so excited. The first cherries of the season!
But when I got home I saw that they all looked weird. They all looked like abnormal double cherries where there was a partial growth of a second cherry attached to the main one.
I felt kind of bummed out about it. Today I decided to research what makes cherries look mutated like that. No its not from nuclear fallout or even chemicals or genetic engineering. According to one source I found on the web which got info from a cherry grower, the plants do this when there is a lack of water or else too much heat. It is a normal reaction by the cherry tree to stress and they are safe to eat.
So – yaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!! First cherries of the season!!!!!!!!!
