Because of quinoa’s unique characteristics and flavor it can be challenging to find suitable seasonings when preparing dishes with it. The most basic dish is just a bowl of quinoa, optionally with vegetables, seeds or nuts, or other items mixed in.
With rice one can use soy sauce or a host of other seasonings. But soy sauce does not go well at all with quinoa. What about hot seasonings like cayenne powder? Again, I might use this to spice up rice and give its flavor a little zing, but usually don’t like to add hot seasonings to quinoa since they just stomp on its delicate flavor. Vinegar is good to add to grain dishes including rice and it also works with quinoa. My favorite is raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar.
What seasonings really goes well with quinoa? Today I tried a few different ones which worked really well: savory, thyme, and marjoram.
Finally, a way to zest up quinoa!
