There is a progression from unconscious consumption to increasing consciousness, to increasing conscientiousness. Ultimately there is a point where the cultivation of discipline and skill in terms of nourishment where one arrives at what I want to call agnitarianism.
I have mentioned agni in many previous posts about diet and nutrition. Agni is the fire within. We should learn to view agni as nourishing, almost like an essential vitamin that we need to be healthy. We should crave agni and enjoy it.
Perhaps agnitarianism is the ultimate state of the progression of consiousness and conscientiousness, of discipline, care, skill, wisdom, and love in terms of the tao of nourishing which extends to everything.
There are people who have good intentions yet still have strong attachments to gratification. They invest a lot into pursing gratification and forget simplicity.
But the ultimate stage I think is where one finds simplicity. This ultimate stage is agnitarianism, and the jump from veganism to it is even greater than the jump from say vegetarianism to veganism, or from omnivorism to being vegetarian.
But because it is subtle it does not manifest intensely externally. One does not see anything intense externally, but experiences it within.
Everywhere one goes these days one can see people indulging. There is a real need for agnitarians in the world, those who live for a higher calling.
I think its time to transcend the idea of noble indulgence, consious consumerism, or whatever its called. Being vegan is good. But there’s a level of evolution which goes way beyond that of gratification and indulgence. Or perhaps another way to look at it is that being agnitarian one finds the ultimate gratification, the ultimate indulgence which is so pure that it transcends the level of gross tastes.
Every day when one wakes up one can think about agni. One can try to stay mindful of it throughout the day, throughout one’s activites. It feels like a relief to find a level that focuses on mindfulness and not on indulgence and guilt. Being mindful of agni is like living on fire, like making continual offerings with one’s body and soul, continually renewing one’s state of consecration.
The agnitarian diet is the progression of the no-refined carbs, sattvic, simple, vegan diet. It is all those things but incorporates one further element – the agni or fire element – into the process of nourishment.
In addition to viewing various foods as sources of nourishment, in the agnitarian diet one also views the internal agni as nourishment, as the primary nourishment.
It is a way of honoring the tao of nourishment, not just simply fasting or giving up. It is not about deprivation but about enhancing nourishment. It is remaining clear so that, when one taking in nourishment the nourishment is full and clear. Agni is like the yang of nourishing while taking in food is like the yin. They both balance and enchance each other. Both of them are sources of bliss.
Agnitarians truly have the power to transform the world and more than ever their healing power is greatly needed.
