The Best Coffee – Update

Dear reader, its now been two and one-half weeks since I wrote about the joy of my new, $21 coffee-maker which I just got online from mrcoffee.com and how much I love it and how much better the coffee is.

For a long time before that I would go one of the popular chain-cafes that are all over the place, wanting to get the health benefits of drinking coffee which I’ve so frequently read about. But the problem was that these coffees, even though I was always ordering decaf, and often also having them water-down the coffee, always ended up causing a lot of health problems for me. Major problems with digestion. Wiping out of intestinal flora. Bloating, gas, feeling really wiped out, etc.

I just want to update here that, now two and one-half weeks in, I’ve been enjoying what formerly would have been absolutely impossible: multiple cups of coffee during the day, as much as 3 or 4 large cups or probably 6-7 of what the coffee machine’s decanter considers a cup. And I’ve had basically no problems whatsoever. No real digestive issues. No sickness. Sometimes I even have a few sips of it at night before going to bed and I still sleep ok. I should note that this is still decaf coffee that I’m drinking – a really nice, very dark-roasted organic French-blend coffee (its called Equal Exchange) from a local natural foods store which sells it bulk and has a grinding machine.

I guess it really does matter how coffee is brewed and my guess is that what is so great about this $21 coffee maker (which also came with an extremely handy coffee grinder which I can use for flax and chia seeds) is that it doesn’t heat the water too much, as the temperature of the water has a major effect on the extraction process.
