I’ve been experimenting trying to find a nice Earth tone color to use for the "active titlebar" of the plasma desktop environment. Often colors that are part of different themes that one finds are not earthy enough. A lot of desktop color schemes tend to be subdued and feature a lot of greys. However I find grey too cold and it lacks earthiness, hence my quest for a suitable color.
The purpose of this particular Earth tone is to add a little Earthy punch to existing dark grey desktop color schemes which are now popular and which help reduce eye strain.
The actual value for the color is hsl(18.2, 100%, 9.6%) or Y:0.01 Pr:0.13 Pb:-0.41 which you can render using colorizer.org or similar tools.
I was trying to think of the color of certain rocks I remember when hiking in inspired places, which have a reddish hue. The type of rock I’m thinking of could be a type of chert or some other type of rock.
One reason I really like colorizer.org – if you put these values into it and then look at the HSL and HSV sliders you’ll see what I mean. The other sliders I like to use for designing colors are YPbPr.
I read that it is good to surround oneself with Earth tones so I’m trying to integrate them into my life in as many ways as possible.
hsl(18.2, 100%, 9.6%):
Healing Earth tones. Love it!
