Help your body deal with the smoke (updated)

Here is a link (purpleair.com) to an up-to-date map showing multiple air quality sensors.  This site is better than the official government sites which show only very limited sensors and does not have real-time data.  (I have to ask the government air quality agencies what the fuck is going on since we taxpayers are paying them a lot of money and we only get shitty, limited data that is 2 hours old.)

At this point – we are now going on day 8 of dangerous to extremely dangerous levels of PM2.5 particles.  As of the latest forecast (Wednesday evening) the weather pattern is not expected to change until sometime next week.  They are now saying that the weather pattern may not change until Thanksgiving.

It is highly irresponsible for all businesses, employers, agencies, institutions, schools, etc. not to close down. It is time for everyone to stay at home. We do not need vehicles on the road. Uber should be banned from operating.  Heavily polluting vehicles like diesel trucks should be banned from operating.

If you happen to live in an area affected by wildfire smoke there are a few things you can do to help.

One is to have a good indoor air purifier with a HEPA filter. Keep all windows shut and try to seal areas around doors where air might leak in by placing a towel or fabric along the bottom. If you have a purifier consider replacing the filter, even if the indicator light says it doesn’t need to be replaced or it’s not out of date.  I just replaced my filter today and it has improved the quality of air substantially.

[UPDATE – given that the air quality has gone to extremely dangerous I’m not sure if this is recommended. You have to play it by ear. One thing to be aware of is that you might not be able to smell smoke even when the air quality is extremely hazardous.]  At least once a day I turn off the filter and crack a window and allow the air to completely circulate inside, then close the window again and turn the purifier back on.

Another thing I highly recommend to give your body a boost is to eat one or two (or three) nodules of garlic (I won’t say “clove” because no one including me is ever sure if it means the whole thing of garlic you get at the store or just one nodule).

Vitamin C is also good to take. Now is a good time to mega-dose – take 1000, 2000, or even 4000 or 5000 mg per day.

I’ve also been making sure to take vitamin D3 since my outdoor activity has been limited.

Other things may help like mint tea, but in my opinion garlic and Vitamin C are the best. If you think you have a mild infection as always take zinc, but I don’t think zinc is specifically helpful for smoke. I also take silymarin powder (1/3 tsp/day) to ensure that my liver is healthy.

Finally, unless you live somewhere where the smoke level is extremely hazardous, it’s good to get outside at least a little bit and walk. Your body still needs to get outside and move around. [UPDATE – we’ve now hit the extremely hazardous level so you have to play this by ear]

Make sure you eat well. This is not a good time for fasting. The body processes toxins much better when it’s well fed.

Pray. We all need to pray that the weather pattern changes and that we get a much-needed break in the weather. Also pray for all those – humans and non-humans – affected. They are going through a really hard time right now.
