There are a number of natural remedies for poison oak. This is a really simple, highly effective one that only requires two ingredients: Aloe vera juice and mugwort leaf. The fresher the mugwort leaf the better.
Just put aloe vera on a cotton round and moisten the affected area. Then crush up a mugwort leaf or several and rub it in well on the area. Put the cotton round over it and rub it around to spread the mugwort well. Re-moisten the cotton round if necessary with more aloe vera and leave it sit on the affected area.
I’ve tried this with just aloe vera juice and it doesn’t really work. There is definitely something very powerful in the mugwort that causes virtually instant relief.
Each treatment should last for 8 or more hours. Even with an area that is really inflamed, it might take only a few successive treatments to completely relive the irritation. Usually not more than three.
I usually don’t get poison oak however I’ve toppled over on my bike a couple times recently into patches of plants which must have included some poison oak. Imagine toppling over like that onto asphalt or pavement. Nature is so protective and forgiving compared to human-made environments.
Don’t ask how I toppled over. Ok, I will tell: The path was really narrow and it only took a slight deviation to go over the edge of it which is a steep decline. Over I went right into the shrubbery. The first time it was a patch of mostly cow parsnip – almost the exact perfect patch of plants to land into. The second time it was – I’m not sure but it was a pretty soft landing. Both times I went from 90 degrees vertical to like -15 degrees with my head below my feet LOL.
I have to be more careful on those narrow paths. I think a little bit of wiping out is good. It helps strengthen you.
